Programme at the DFV Joint Stand: From AED Experience to Vegetation Fire Fighting

The German Fire Brigade Association (Deutscher Feuerwehrverband, DFV) is using its exhibition presence in Hall 27, D 46 to showcase not only the extensive network of its various partners. At the centre of the stand is the “Plaza”, where five compact specialist presentations each day provide insights into the full range of topics relevant to fire brigades and their associations. “The varied specialist programme makes particularly clear just how multifaceted and diverse the world of firefighting is, with all its tasks and its ongoing development,” says DFV Vice President Frank Hachemer, who is responsible for the event within the executive board.

Speakers from the ranks of the German Fire Brigade Association share their expertise on IT security for fire brigades, report on the revision of the fire service operational guideline on “Diving”, and present the principles governing the specialist units “Rescue Dogs & Locating Technology”. The experts draw lessons from respiratory protection accidents, discuss experience with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in fire brigades, address sirens as part of the warning system mix, and provide insights into the umbrella organisation of Austrian fire brigades. On the Plaza, they demonstrate that firefighting is about more than just technology by presenting on wide-ranging topics: violence against emergency responders, democracy and diversity work, and fire brigade music, through to fire brigade museums and the digitalisation of historical documents.

The state fire brigade associations contribute contributions on numerous topics that invite learning from examples of good practice in other locations: on streamlined fire protection needs planning, communication in escalated operational situations, networked control room structures, the diverse possibilities in civil protection, population resilience and crisis preparedness, tax- and social security-optimised structuring of expense allowances, benefits for the survivors of those who have died in fire service, the impact of fire alarm systems, fire protection in fire stations, recruiting members for volunteer fire brigades in rural areas, the Voluntary Social Year in the fire service, identity-forming everyday objects, bonuses and honours, fire brigades in schools, and cooperation with farmers in vegetation fire fighting.

The German Fire Brigade Association, as the professional association for more than 1.4 million fire service personnel in Germany, is an ideational partner of the world’s leading trade fair. Alongside the DFV and the state fire brigade associations, the joint stand also features international organisations, including the World Fire Brigade Association CTIF and the European Firefighters Association (EUFFAS). Also present are the Fire Brigades, Rescue Services and Fire Protection department of the German Social Accident Insurance (Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung), the German Youth Fire Brigade, the German Fire Brigade Museum, the DFV’s “Holiday and Guest Houses” working group, and the German Fire Brigade Association’s mail-order store.
